Architectural Design
The Architectural team brings experience in historic renovation,
adaptive reuse, (preservation) and new construction to all Gorman &
Company’s projects. In-house architectural capability allows control
over quality, design and innovation in products meant to serve large
varieties, as well as small niches, of residents: Creative use of materials
in artist’s lofts allow residents to use their apartment as a studio;
state-of-the-art features allow convenient living for residents with
physical disabilities; exterior street entrances allow entrepreneurs a
public access for their in-home business. In-house architecture also
allows for quick decisions when unforeseen issues arise in historic
renovation or the preservation of older housing structures.
The architectural team consists of the Director of Construction and
Design, Director of Architectural Team and design technicians, as well
as a large stable of consultants, with whom they have had long standing
relationships. Eppstein Uhen Architects has been a creative and
client-oriented partner on several Gorman projects. In a collaborative
effort with world class Duany Plater-Zyberk & Company, Gorman was
awarded the rights to develop a unique, single level affordable
housing product in the upper Florida Keys.
Gorman & Company routinely conducts construction and design
charettes for its new development projects. These early design meetings
include architects, key contractors, engineers, other consultants,
management, construction and ownership. By including many disciplines
in the design phase, potential issues are ironed out on paper
instead of in the field.
