WKTB La Crosse, July 13, 2007

The redevelopment of the old John Gund Brewery near Gundersen Lutheran is ahead of schedule.

Crews are working to renovate the building into apartment units. There are now five peole living in the building and about 20 more are expected to move in over the next month.

The building was originally a bottling house for the Gund Brewery. "The building was built in 1903," says Chris Laurent with developer Gorman and Company. "There is a lot of history obviously related with the building. The building is on the national registry of historic places. It qualified because of the innovations of bottle water sterilization techniques."

Besides the historic flair of the building, the complex will also include a movie theater, an exercise studio, underground parking and a community room. There has been a lot of interest in the Gund Brewery development. So far, about 70 applications are being process for the building's 86 units.
